# Changing your email or password in Checkly

> Learn how to change your email address or password in your Checkly account

Your email and password each have a card under [**Settings** > **User settings** > **Security**](https://app.checklyhq.com/settings/user/security).

## Changing your email

You can't change the email address of an existing Checkly user. Instead, you add a new user with the new email address and transfer your roles to it. The **Email** card on the **Security** page links to these steps.

1. Go to the [members section of your account settings](https://app.checklyhq.com/settings/account/members).
2. Invite the user with the new email address to your account. That email address will receive an invite email.
3. Sign up with the new email address by clicking the link in the invite email.
4. Transfer any roles or permissions from the old user to the new user.
5. Optionally, remove your "old" user from the account.

<Warning>
  This method won't work if you're on the Hobby plan or have reached your user limit. If you run into this or other issues, contact [support@checklyhq.com](mailto:support@checklyhq.com) for help.
</Warning>

## Changing your password

<Note>
  If you sign in with Google, GitHub, single sign-on (SSO) or Vercel, Checkly doesn't manage your password. Change it with that provider instead, for example in your Google account, on GitHub, or with your organization's identity provider. In that case the **Password** card shows who manages your password instead of a form.
</Note>

If you sign in with an email and password, you can change your password while signed in:

1. Go to [**Settings** > **User settings** > **Security**](https://app.checklyhq.com/settings/user/security).
2. In the **Password** card, enter your new password in **New password** and **Confirm new password**.
3. Click **Change password**.
4. In the Auth0 sign-in window that opens, enter your current password, plus your MFA code if you use [multi-factor authentication](/admin/team-management/multi-factor-authentication).

Your new password needs at least 8 characters, including at least 3 of the following:

* Lowercase letters (a-z)
* Uppercase letters (A-Z)
* Numbers (0-9)
* Special characters, for example `!@#$%^&*`

After the change, you stay signed in on the device you used. Your other sessions are signed out, and you receive an email confirming that your password was changed.

If you forgot your password and can't sign in, use **Forgot password?** on the [login page](https://app.checklyhq.com/login). After resetting your password, you can log in with your new password.

<Note>
  If your reset password email never arrives, this may be because you originally logged in with Google or GitHub. If you need help accessing your account, please reach out to [support@checklyhq.com](mailto:support@checklyhq.com).
